Protests erupt outside Kasba Police station as 3 arrested in alleged Kolkata college gang rape
Saheb Khan, a resident of Jolapara Masjid Lane in Howrah, had married his sister to Sohel Akhtar from the same area seven years ago. After the marriage, Sohel Akhtar was repeatedly accused of subjecting his wife to physical and mental torture for dowry. Several complaints were lodged at the police station over time, and while police intervention would bring temporary relief, the situation would soon revert to the same cycle of abuse.
To protect his sister from such circumstances, Saheb Khan, after consulting his family, brought her back to his home and started preparing for divorce. Upon hearing about this, his brother-in-law, Sohel Akhtar, attacked Saheb Khan in a secluded spot with the intent to kill him. It is alleged that Sohel inflicted multiple deep wounds on Saheb using a chopper knife and a razor, leaving him bleeding profusely on the road.
Locals noticed the injured Saheb and rushed him to Howrah Hospital. Given the severity of his wounds, he was later transferred to Kolkata’s RG Kar Hospital, where his condition remains critical. Meanwhile, the Howrah police arrived at the scene and launched an investigation. Efforts are ongoing to track down Sohel Akhtar, who has been absconding since the incident.
